The Long Island Council of the Navy League of the United States

Services

The Naval Sea Cadet Corps

We strongly support the Naval Sea Cadet Corps (NSCC) program for young people ages 13 through the completion of high school, and a junior program, the Navy League Cadet Corps (NLCC), for young people ages 10 through 13.

Congressional Interaction

Governmental interaction is an important aspect of the Long Island Council’s activities. We outreach to local, state and federal representatives on important topics such as program funding updates, regulatory compliance, veteran training and workplace issues.

Advocacy

Drawing on the experience of organizing and hosting the commissioning of the USS Michael Murphy, the Council is positioning itself to do the same for the USS Patrick Gallagher. The ship is being named to honor Lance Corporal Patrick Gallagher (1944–1967), an Irish-born Marine who earned the Navy Cross during the Vietnam War. The Council has contacted the Gallagher family, and we monitor progress through the US Navy. We hope to learn the location of the commissioning soon.

Veteran’s Recognition

Providing aid and assistance to our veterans takes on many forms and includes hyperlocal action. The Long Island Council of the Navy League of the United States sponsors and/or supports veterans’ recognition events on a year-round basis.

Veteran’s Training and Hiring

We are dedicated to implementing a ‘boots to shoes’ program for veterans to identify, train and employ our veterans returning to civilian life.

Wounded Warrior Program

We support the WWP “Warriors to Work” program for veterans and their families seeking employment with our corporate members. We do this by matching open positions and qualified candidates in the area. We also organize corporate facility tours by qualified, interested WWP candidates so companies can meet the candidates and the candidates can see the company.

NOSC Operational Support Center

We support the Navy Operational Support Center (NOSC) Long Island which is responsible for the readiness of Selected Reserve Sailors who make up diverse units that provide operational capabilities to their supported (active-duty) commands on a fleetwide basis. The NOSC is responsible for the mobilization and demobilization process for both individual augmentees and unit deployments and supports the families of those Reserve Sailors deployed in support of military operations worldwide.
